National Young Leaders day was a great experience. We learnt a lot about being a good leader, like being yourself, making good decisions, being a good team mate, and taking time to listen to people. My favourite speaker was Lauren Brant. She told us about being ourselves, determination, being the best you can and making a difference. She was very inspiring. I really enjoyed young leader’s day and I hope that I can become inspirational just like the speakers I saw on the day.

Last weekend Sarah, David, Jordan, Francis, Gary, Kaitlyn, and Chad, together with Mr Buckland, travelled to Mylor Baptist Camp for the first of three retreat weekends connected with their Vetamorphus course. This brought them together with almost 100 other students who were also studying the Cert III in Christian Ministry. The theme for the weekend was ‘Entering God’s Story’ and students spent time looking at the history of the Bible and God’s story of salvation. They also had some free time to catch up with the other students from various schools throughout SA.

Another major component of the weekend was the graduation of the Vetamorphus Class of 2010. We were fortunate to have four ladies return for the graduation. It was great to see Jess, Katelyn, Izzy and Maddy receive their certificates in front of their families and friends. Unfortunately Chris, Sam and Morgan were busy with other commitments and not able to receive their certificates, but hopefully they will receive them at a chapel service in due course.

The retreat helps to kick-start the year for our Vetamorphus students and I am sure they are now looking forward to the year God has in store for them. We can’t wait for the next retreat.

On Tuesday 8th February our School Captain Chris Button represented St Martins at the Lions Youth of the Year Quest. Chris had to participate in an interview, give a prepared speech of five minutes, and two impromptu two minute speeches to members of the club. Lions Youth of the Year are assessed on their community involvement, leadership, general knowledge and academic achievement We are delighted that Christopher was the Mount Gambier winner and wish him all the best as he goes on to regional finals at the end of this month. Chris has been an excellent role model at school and in the community and thoroughly deserves his success.

The vocal talent is also amazing – the sweet sweet voices of Jess and Courtney kept us entertained throughout the evening.

It was a time to dress up

And catch up

And receive winning prizes!

Jess thanked the Mayor for opening the exhibition

And also Mrs DB-Delaney for all the hard work putting the show together.

Each class was involved by making a mandela for the exhibition
